Navigation: 3 mega menus (Events, Eat & Drink, Explore) with 2/3 link pane + 1/3 editorial spotlight panel. 2 simple dropdowns (Parking & Safety, About) with icon + label + description per row. Donate CTA styled as distinct button. Per SNA_Navigation_Strategy_OSA: mega menus trigger on hover (200ms open / 300ms close delay in production); editorial panels are CMS-managed single post references with fallback defaults; Explore groups subpages by section (Art & Culture, Shopping, Experiences, Stay); Shopping nav shows only Fashion, Gifts, and All Shopping (analytics-informed — other categories accessible via landing page); Events editorial panel uses NAVY background; Eat & Drink and Explore editorial panels use white background. Mobile: all menus convert to accordion drawers, editorial panels omitted.

Minimal hero — orient, confirm, and get out of the way. No photography required. Live event count auto-updates as filters are applied — signals currency and depth. Breadcrumb provides navigation context back to Events landing. This is a utility page: the hero copy confirms purpose, it does not sell an experience.

The filter bar is the functional heart of this page. Sticks to viewport top on scroll. Text search enables keyword/event name lookup — matches against event title, description, and venue. Four filter groups: Search (text input), Date Range (preset chips + custom picker), Category (multi-select, maps to 7 defined event categories with result counts), and attribute toggles (Free, Family-Friendly). All active filters reflected in URL query params for deep-linking and shareability. Category chips use shortened display labels ("Festivals" not "Parades, Festivals & Community Events") — confirm mapping with SNA. When visitors arrive via deep links (e.g., "Food & Drink Events" from Eat & Drink page), pre-applied filters must be clearly visible with "Clear All Filters" available. Result counts prevent dead-end filter combos.

5 ongoing eventsMulti-day events & exhibitions currently in progress
Ongoing Events — persistent section above day groups. Surfaces multi-day events currently in progress (start date ≤ today ≤ end date). Does not participate in day grouping — these events span multiple days and belong in their own persistent layer.
Qualification threshold: An event appears here if its duration is 3+ days. Exhibitions always qualify (they're typically weeks or months). Multi-day festivals (3+ days) qualify. A two-day event (e.g., Saturday–Sunday) does NOT appear here — it appears in both day groups below. A Fri–Sun event (3 days) qualifies. The threshold is inclusive: if start date and end date span 3 or more calendar days, the event appears in Ongoing.
Card format: Compact horizontal cards (thumbnail + stacked text) vs. the taller vertical cards used in the day-grouped grid below. The teal left-border accent distinguishes ongoing cards visually. Date range shown in teal to reinforce the multi-day nature.
Sort order: Events ending soonest appear first (closing-soon priority). If two events end the same day, alphabetical by title.
Overlap with day grid: Events in the Ongoing section are excluded from the day-grouped grid below. They live in one place only. This avoids duplication and keeps the day grid focused on single-occurrence events.
Empty state: If no ongoing events exist, this entire section (including the divider) is hidden. The day grid moves up to sit directly below the filter bar.
★ Open question: Should the Ongoing section be collapsible? On a busy week with many exhibitions, this section could push the day grid quite far down. A "Show all / Show fewer" toggle after 6 items might be appropriate. ★ Data source: Same WordPress events feed as the day grid — filtered by date range rather than single-day occurrence. Exhibitions imported from gallery CMS records should carry their run dates. ★ Maintenance: No manual maintenance — driven entirely by event start/end dates in WordPress.

Full event grid — single-day and short-duration events from today forward, no upper date limit. Multi-day events (3+ days) are surfaced in the Ongoing section above and excluded from this grid to avoid duplication. No editorial labels (Don't Miss, Opening This Weekend) — those belong on Happening Now. This is a neutral, unranked view. Date group separators aid chronological scanning. Cards within a date group sorted A–Z. Two-day events (e.g., Sat–Sun) appear in both relevant day groups since they don't meet the 3-day ongoing threshold. 3-col desktop / 2-col tablet / 1-col mobile. "Load More" pagination preserves scroll position. Initial load: 12–18 results. Optional list/grid view toggle persists within session. Empty state: never show a blank grid — always provide a recovery path (Clear Filters + hint text). Edge case: if no events exist at all, show "No upcoming events right now. Check back soon, or submit your own." with Submit an Event CTA.
